Job Summary
The Youth coordinator will be responsible for designing and implementing recreational and educational programs catering to the interests and needs of Ethiopian youth and young adults in the Ethiopian Community. This role involves collaborating with community members and stakeholders to ensure that the activities are culturally sensitive and aligned with the values and traditions of the Ethiopian diaspora.
The Coordinator will play a pivotal role in event coordination, overseeing the planning and execution of various summer events, workshops, and outings. This includes managing logistics such as venue bookings, transportation, and permits while prioritizing the safety and well-being of participants.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and evaluate youth recreation and leisure programs, with possible collaboration with different organizations.
Assist in administrative work at the office, including developing members’ surveys, reviewing and editing documents, assisting in grant applications, and sorting files.
Organize sports, arts, cultural, educational, leadership, or wellness activities for youth participants.
Promote programs through community outreach, social media, schools, and local organizations.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, organizational policies, and child protection procedures.
Monitor program participation, attendance, and participant feedback.
Maintain program records, reports, budgets, and inventories.
Foster positive relationships with youth, parents, schools, and community partners.
Address participant concerns and resolve conflicts in a professional manner.
Qualifications
Must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years old at the start of employment (in accordance with the agreement on the Canada Summer Jobs website).
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred in Canada, with a valid SIN
Fluency in English is required, and proficiency in Amharic or other Ethiopian languages is a highly valuable asset
Experience in planning and coordinating recreational and leisure activities for youth, preferably within a community or non-profit, would be an asset.
Knowledge of Ethiopian culture and community dynamics is highly desirable.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated leadership abilities and the capacity to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with social media platforms for program promotion.
